MBS Presents New Ways to Prepare Popular Foods

Patrons attending the upcoming Medical Benefits Scheme (MBS) Therapeutic Lifestyle Choices (TLC) Day will learn new and exciting ways to prepare popular foods. That’s according to the MBS Nutrition Officer; Dorothy Graham-Charles. The MBS’s TLC Day is an open air event which will be held on Thursday, 13th September, 2012 on Nevis Street from 10:00am to 6:00pm. TLC Day is one of several events to be held under the Diabetes Village umbrella.

According to Mrs Graham-Charles, six chefs will put on food demonstrations showcasing how some popular foods can be transformed into healthy and creative dishes. The food demonstration presenters, some of whom are past winners in the Medical Benefits Scheme Healthy Recipe Competition will also demonstrate how some infrequently tried foods can become attractive and nutritious menu items.

While emphasising good nutrition, the MBS TLC Day will also focus on the fun of physical activity. A number of local gym instructors and exercise groups will take centre stage to demonstrate a variety of exercise routines, educating patrons on suitable options for their individual fitness levels. The exercises demonstrations which will begin in the afternoon include Zumba, Aerobics, Body Sculpting, Chair Dancing and Yoga.

A number of the Medical Benefits Scheme’s health partners will also be participating in TLC Day to showcase their wellness products. These partners include Caribbean Pharmaceuticals Supplies Ltd., F.B Armstrong Ltd, A.S. Brydens & Sons Ltd., Mount St. John’s Medical Centre, and ST. John’s Ambulance.

The MBS Diabetes Villages continues with a Diabetes Screening Day on Thursday, 27th September, 2012, at the Simon Bolívar Community Centre, St Johnston’s Village, from 9:00am – 4:00pm.
